They had to. Get the details here:
There is a change in the schedule. And no, it’s no to add more games to the only one being played on Sunday, or to put one on the damn schedule tonight.
According to insider Chris Johnston, the NHL has announced that the start time for the game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings, initially scheduled for 4 pm on Monday, has been moved up to 2 p.m. to avoid going head to head with Game 2 of the American League Championship Series hosted by the Blue Jays.
“Fans are invited to stay in their seats at Scotiabank Arena to watch the baseball game, too,” added Johnston.
“The Blue Jays playoff excitement has captured the entire city and we want to help make sure that fans don’t miss a pitch,” said Keith Pelley, President & CEO of MLSE. “We greatly appreciate the cooperation by the NHL and Amazon Prime to make this time change possible and we all look forward to cheering on both the Leafs and the Blue Jays on Monday afternoon and evening.”
The Maple Leafs confirmed the news soon after.
The Blue Jays reached the American League Championship Series on Wednesday while the Maple Leafs were hosting the Montreal Canadiens for their home opener of the 2025-26 season.
After the Leafs’ win, the arena allowed fans to stay in their seats to watch the end of the baseball game as the Jays beat out the New York Yankees.
Now hockey fans will get to attend the Leafs’ game in the afternoon on Thanksgiving Monday in Canada, and enjoyed the baseball game right after.
