NHL moves up the start date for Round 2!

When the National Hockey League put together this new 24-team playoff tournament which started on August 1st, it was hoping that the entire postseason could take place in a total of 60 days in order to have minimum impact on the 2020-21 campaign.

Many people called them ambitious and doubted that it could be done however it sounds like the NHL is doing everything it can to make that happen and respect their tight deadline.

David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period has just reported that the NHL is expected to move up the start date for Round 2, pending the outcome of tonight’s games.

“If the Flyers & Canucks win & move on, Round 2 could start as early as tomorrow. If Round 1 ends Sunday, Round 2 will likely begin Monday.”

It all depends on what happens tonight as both the Montreal Canadiens and St. Louis Blues are on the brink of elimination in their respective series.

The Blues are the defending champions and are expected to fight until the end to advance to the second round.

While the Habs are considered the underdogs in their series against the Philadelphia Flyers, the recent loss of top forward Brendan Gallagher, whose jaw was broken by Matt Niskanen, could motivate the Canadiens to win this one and force a do or die Game 7.

It was confirmed that the Second Round series between the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche will start on Saturday night. That's tomorrow!
