I swear I'm starting to believe that they might genuinely be doing this on purpose.

It seems like each and every summer a new series of rankings emerges from the National Hockey League's NHL Network, rankings that generate a ton of conversation online. Unfortunately much of that conversation is usually skewed to the negative side of things as fans and pundits alike often find themselves objecting to the rankings released by the NHL Network.

This year is no exception, with a recent ranking from the NHL Network leading many to believe that two big time NHL stars have been absolutely snubbed. First let's take a look at the rankings in question.

The NHL Network released what it is calling the NHL's Quarter Century Team, a team comprised of 12 forwards, 6 defensemen and 2 goalies. Here is their full list of players:

Now before you get outraged it is important to note that only players who made their NHL debuts on or after January 1st, 2000 are eligible to be on this list, so players like Zdeno Chara or Nicklas Lidstrom wouldn't be eligible given that they both made their NHL debuts several years earlier.

That being said there are two names that keep coming up as names that are snubs, with those being that of former New York Rangers star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, and current Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson.

In the case of Lundqvist I believe things are a bit more subjective, but with Karlsson I think you would be hard pressed to argue that this isn't a clear snub. Karlsson was voted the NHL's best defenseman 3 times, winning the Norris Trophy, during the relevant span of time and finished 2nd in Norris voting two additional times during that span as well. When you consider that some of the defensemen on the list have never even won a Norris trophy it becomes difficult to argue that Karlsson shouldn't be on the list.

Do you agree that Karlsson has been robbed by the NHL Network? Do you think other players should have made the list? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
