NHL offers troubling response to child abuse allegations against Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini
That’s it?!?
HockeyFeed
On Tuesday night, news rocked the fanbase in Vancouver as a report from Patrick Johnson of The Province emerged that Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini is being sued by ex-wife Tali’ah Aquilini for unpaid child support. On top of that, she claims that Francesco abused the children when they were younger. The children, all full-time University students aged 24, 22 and 20, described their abuse in court affidavits. The former couple divorced in 2013.
Per the Province, the children described abuse and inappropriate conduct by their dad, including alleged incidents of physical and psychological abuse.
On Wednesday, the NHL responded to the allegations against Aquilini as a league spokesperson stated, per TSN's Darren Dreger:
“We are aware of the allegations that have been made in the Family Court proceeding in Vancouver and have been in touch with Mr. Aquilini and his lawyers regarding same.
"Clearly, the parties have been involved in a most contentious divorce. Mr. Aquilini has advised us that he categorically denies the allegations. We plan to continue to monitor the situation and, if necessary, will respond as we learn more as events unfold.”
That’s just weak and troubling if you ask me. Because the parties are involved in a “most contentious divorce”, the NHL isn’t going to do anything now? Like maybe suspend the guy until the court rests its case?
I feel like something way better would have been said or done if this situation would be taking place in the MLB or NFL… Why always behind, Bettman?
