The National Hockey League just simply can't seem to escape the controversies surrounding goaltender interference calls in their league, and unfortunately on Monday we were treated to the latest example with another highly controversial call.

This one came during a game between the Ottawa Senators and Nashville Predators and, to put it mildly, fans of the Ottawa Senators are furious after a goal from Senators defenseman Jake Sanderson was taken off the board.

It initially looked like it would be a good goal with no obvious signs of goaltender interference on the play, however after a very lengthy review the league would determine that Senators forward Tim Stutzle had made contact with Predators goaltender Juuse Saros prior to the goal going in. As you can see from the overhead view, there's no question that Stutzle's skate did make contact with Saros' pad.

That being said it doesn't appear to have had any kind of meaningful impact on the play with Saros still in position to make the save. although Saros did go out of his way to sell it after the puck had gone into the net.

Here's a look at the play in real time:

The NHL has often been criticized for getting these calls wrong by one fan base or another, and this time it is fans of the Ottawa Senators expressing their outrage at the call, especially considering it came after such a lengthy review.

The issue for the NHL on this topic has been a lack of consistency and it has led to so much unnecessary frustration from fans.

Do you think the NHL got this one right? Or are fans in Ottawa rightfully upset at what is now another controversial goaltender interference call?
