The National Hockey League has made headlines once again, only this time it is for all of the wrong reasons.

On Thursday, Arizona Coyotes minority owner Andrew Barroway was arrested in Colorado on felony charges following an alleged altercation with his wife in a hotel room, Barroway was arrested on suspiciuon of second degree stragulation and third degree assault on Thursday and appeared in court the following day to face those charges. Barroway is expected to be back in court in early April, but the National Hockey League and the Arizona Coyotes have already acted swiftly.

The  NHL has moved to suspend Barroway indefinitely following the charges and the Coyotes have released the following official statement:

“We are aware of the allegation regarding Mr. Barroway and we are working with the League to gather more information. When we have enough information, we will have an appropriate response. Until the investigation is complete, we will have no further comment.”

The statement from the NHL:

“The National Hockey League is aware of the arrest of Arizona Coyotes’ minority owner Andrew Barroway," the NHL said in a statement. "Pending further information, he has been suspended indefinitely.”

Although Barroway is now a minority owner after having sold majority interest in the Coyotes to Alex Meruelo, he was once majority owner of the Coyotes and even retained sole ownership of the team at one point in time. Given his high level of involvement with the league, the NHL's decision to act swiftly in this matter comes as little surprise.
