Pittsburgh Penguins star forward Evgeni Malkin has landed himself in some hot water with the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety after losing his cool over the weekend.

On Saturday night during a clash between the Penguins and the Winnipeg Jets, Malkin would deliver a nasty looking slash to the arm of Jets defenseman Logan Stanley. The blow looked to have been delivered with considerable force and Stanley reacted to the blow by wincing in pain and cradling his arm against his body. The slash appeared to take Stanley out of the play, leaving him standing by the net as he stared at Malkin, clearly unhappy with what had just transpired.

Although it initially looked as though Malkin had gotten away with one, on Sunday morning the disciplinary arm of the NHL announced that he had in fact been caught. The NHL's Department of Player Safety has slapped Malkin with a fine in the amount of $5,000, the maximum amount they can find him under the current rules of the collective bargaining agreement.

Malkin won't miss any time as a result of his infraction, which is good news for the Penguins given how well Malkin has played to start the season, but it is enough to make him a repeat offender should he find himself in the crosshairs of NHL Player Safety once again at any point in the next 18 months.
