NHL Player Safety issues ruling on Nicolas Roy dangerous cross-check ahead of Game 3

BREAKING NEWS : the Oilers aren’t going to be happy. More below:

Edmonton Oilers were hoping for a suspension, but the NHL’s Player Safety’s announcement on Friday night will upset them. It has been confirmed that no suspension is being handed out to Vegas Golden Knights’ Nicolas Roy for cross-checking Trent Frederic in the mouth during Game 2 on Thursday night.

Roy is only getting fined $7,812.50, the maximum allowable under the CBA.

As Elliotte Friedman points out: "It's rare -- hasn't happened this year, but has in past -- for players to get a hearing and not be suspended.

Roy escapes, because he was reckless instead of trying to injure.

Learned today no player can be fined more than $5K without a hearing."

Vegas, who also called out Oilers’ forward Viktor Arvidsson for a controversial play in the overtime, is getting away with this one after losing last night's Game 2 in overtime.

Just minutes prior to the overtime winner, a battle for a loose puck between Arvidsson and Golden Knights’ Brayden McNabb resulted in the Vegas defenseman crashing awkwardly into the boards, forcing him to leave the game.

No penalty was called on the play, and the Golden Knights are furious about it, especially since the game-winner from Edmonton came moments later…

I guess keeping Roy in the lineup is all they get out of this.
