NHL Player Safety throws the book at Rasmus Andersson.

The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety has come down hard on Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson.

On Saturday morning, the league announced that it would hold a hearing with Andersson following a dangerous hit he delivered to the head of Columbus Blue Jackets star forward Patrik Laine. It would now appear as though that hearing did not play out well for Andersson who has just been hit with a massive 4 game suspension in the very early stages of the regular season.

Although the league did acknowledge that Laine's body position contributed slightly to the hit connecting with Laine's head, all possible leniency for Andersson was thrown out the window due to the fact that he launched himself in an upward trajectory to make contact with Laine's head.

The league also acknowledged that Andersson made contact with his elbow to Laine's head, another factor against the Flames defenseman, and was also critical of the timing of the hit which came right at the final buzzer with the score already out of reach for Andersson and the flames.
