Penguins forward Bryan Rust in trouble after a nasty elbow on Sunday night.
The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety will come down on Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust after a nasty incident at the end of last night's game, at least according to one National Hockey League insider.
According to NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal, supplemental discipline is coming the way of Rust.
With only seconds left on the game clock, Rust would deliver a nasty looking elbow to the head and face of Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser, doing so in front of the Penguins net as the Canucks were desperately trying to tie the game.
Not only was it a vicious and intentional looking shot on the part of Rust, but it would take Boeser completely out of the play. Here is a look at the video evidence:
There are several factors here that I believe will not play in Rust's favor. First and foremost it appears that he targeted the head of his opponent and the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety has made it a point of handing out harsher punishments for blows to the head. Additionally it came at the very end of the game with almost no time left on the clock, and I believe this will make the incident look worse in the eyes of the league.
