The NHL decided to punish Pittsburgh Penguins’ Evgeni Malkin and Ottawa Senators’ Jean-Gabriel Pageau some more, following the brawl that erupted at the end of the game Monday night.

Malkin, who recorded two goals and an assist in his team’s 5-2 win, was the target of many hard checks in the last seconds of the game and the Russian player surely didn’t appreciate it.

He fought off Brady Tkachuk AND Mark Borowiecki, before his teammates came to his aid and a brawl ensued on the ice. Players piled up against the boards with officials trying to break everyone apart to no avail.

Finally, as the referees broke down the last penalties of the game, which included three game misconducts to Pens’ Bryan Rust and Sens’ Tkachuk and Borowiecki, the fight was not done.

As Malkin bend over to pick up his stick, he was shoved by Pageau and retaliated by whacking him with his stick.

And now both players will have to pay: Malkin has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for High-sticking Pageau, while the latter has been fined $2,500, for Roughing Malkin.

Pay up boys.
