Uh oh…
Montreal Canadiens rookie forward Juraj Slafkovsky is in trouble… On Wednesday, the NHL reacted to his dangerous hit from behind on Detroit Red Wings’ Matt Luff and announced that he will have a hearing today.
Last night, the Habs’ rookie shoved Luff head-first into the boards as the Red Wings forward bobbled the puck in the neutral zone late in the third period. He made it off the ice, but did not return to the contest.
After the 3-2 shootout loss, Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde said Luff was “seriously injured” on the hit.
“I don’t know completely the exact (timetable) with it, but probably very similar to where Filip Zadina is,” Lalonde said. “We won’t be seeing (Luff) anytime soon, unfortunately.”
Zadina was ruled out for six-to-weeks earlier on Tuesday due to an injury sustained blocking a shot over the weekend.
We all know that injury does count into the league’s decision to suspend the attacker.
Slafkovsky was assessed a major and game misconduct, picking up 15 penalty minutes to bring his season total to 19 through 10 games. The young forward has three goals in those 10 games this season. He could be suspended for the first time of his young career in the NHL… We will find out later today.
The Canadiens face the visiting Vancouver Canucks in Montreal later tonight.
