It's fair to say that things have NOT been going according to plan for the Edmonton Oilers so far this young season.

The team is 5-11-1 to start the campaign and they've lost their last two games, despite making a change at the coaching position earlier this month. The Oilers unceremoniously dumped head coach Jay Woodcroft and dumped starting goalie Jack Campbell on waivers after the worst start in franchise history. The worst part is that the team doesn't look any better since making these big changes and there's no real indication as to when things might change for the club.

Last night the Oilers dropped a 5-3 decision to the Florida Panthers, in a game that featured a two goal performance from captain Connor McDavid. After the game, a frustrated McDavid took questions from the assembled media, including an absolutely asinine question from Oilers Sportsnet reporter Mark Spector.

In a long winded way, Spector asked McDavid that if he felt the Oilers pressured better with the lead, could they have pushed it to a 4-1 margin to then hang on for the lead. Essentially he asked McDavid if he'd rather have won 4-1 than lost 5-3... which... c'mon, Spec. What do you think the answer it there? I'm sure a competitor like McDavid would take a 1-0 win every night of the week. Winning is literally the entire point of professional sports. What kind of question is this?

Well, Spector's take wasn't ignored by Oilers fans and media online. As per usual, Spector was ripped by fans for having yet another 'eye roll inducing' moment. But former NHL referee turned media darling Tim Peel took things further. Peel elected to rip Spector via private message on Twitter and then shared the pair's exchange online for all the see.

Two grown men acting like teenage girls on a social media website... yikes.

Not a good look, gentlemen!

I'm guessing that the Oilers' brass is looking at this sideshow right now and just thanking their lucky stars that Spector and Peel are taking some attention away from the team's poor play.
