Something tells me that National Hockey League referee Frederick L'Ecuyer is going to be getting chirped about this one all season long.

On Sunday night, L'Ecuyer did the unthinkable when he became much more involved in a play than a referee should ever be. With 1:42 left on the game clock in the game's opening period, L'Ecuyer would accidentally deflect the puck into the net of the Vegas Golden Knights after a dump in went off his body and drastically changed direction.

The Golden Knights had Carl Lindbom in net for this one and Lindbom left his net to scoop up the clearing attempt, only to be forced to watch helplessly from behind the net as the puck slowly drifted in.

Thankfully for L'Ecuyer, Lindbom, and the Vegas Golden Knights the goal was immediately waved off by L'Ecuyer, which was the right call. According to NHL rules a puck cannot be deflected into the net by an official, resulting in the goal immediately coming off the board.

It was L'Ecuyer who was forced to make the announcement to the crowd in the building, which made for a rather hilarious scene.

"There is no goal on the play, the puck was deflected by an official," said L'Ecuyer.

That official was of course L'Ecuyer, and you can see the hilarious moment for yourself just below:
