A former National Hockey League referee just dropped a crazy little nugget of information in a recent story for The Player's Tribune.

Legendary, and now retired, NHL official Kerry Fraser revealed to the Tribune that he once received a death threat from one of the most beloved NHL superstars in recent history, former Calgary Flames forward Theo Fleury. According to Fraser a seemingly normal call turned ugly when Fleury went ballistic.

So during Game 1, I called a retaliation penalty on him. It was just a normal call, but for some reason, Theo went absolutely nuts.

Theo skates over to me and says, “You little shitbag asshole. Come outside to the parking lot after the game. I’ll kill you.”

Fraser goes on to describe the incident as one of only two times in his career as an official that he felt like hitting a player, a pretty extreme claim when you consider the long list of incidents and players Fraser has been involved him in his career.

This came at troubled time in Fleury's life and Fraser clearly holds no ill-will towards Fleury, which is probably why he waited so long to share what could have been a potentially damaging story for Fleury years ago.
