The NHL's newly debuted digital game ads have been a source of a bit of controversy this season.

The digital ads have replaced traditional ads along the boards/wall of the playing surface and, at times, have been deemed a distraction to the actual play on the ice. Usually either because of animation within the ads or because the ad itself glitches out and distorts the image on your screen. In short... the ads are buggy as Hell and suck even at the best of times.

Worse yet though... they can cause seizures.

According to a report from CTV News in Toronto, some fans have been experiencing headaches and even seizures as a result of the NHL's new digital ads.

More from CTV News:

Look... it's clear that the NHL's digital ads just aren't ready for prime time. There are clearly some bugs to work out and I don't think it's very responsible for the league to keep running them until all the kinks have been worked out.

I will say though that I have a bit of a controversial opinion on the ads because I actually prefer them to traditional board ads, with one caveat: please no more animation or switching the ads during the course of play.

When the ads are static, I think they actually look cleaner and less distracting than traditional ads, but I know that I'm in the minority with that opinion. I think we can all agree though that no one should feel concerned for their health when sitting down to watch a hockey game, however.
