I unfortunately have some sad news to share, sad news that thankfully does come with a bit of a silver lining.

This week the Columbus Blue Jackets announced that a very young hockey player had been struck by a terrible tragedy. That young hockey player is 12U Girls player Quinn Halstead who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor at a very, very young age.

As a result Quinn required surgery, which took 10 hours, and will need additional radiation treatment in an effort to save her life. As you might expect that comes with significant medical costs and challenges for her family. As part of their announcement the Blue Jackets asked fans on social media to support the GoFundMe that has been set up for her, which you can find here, and I am happy to report that things are going very well so far.

That brings me to the silver lining I mentioned, a number of stars from the National Hockey League have already rallied behind Quinn and her family with a number of generous donations coming in from some pretty big names.

Here are just a few of the donations that have already come in to support Quinn:
Elvis Merzlikins $2,000
Kirill Marchenko $2,000
Zach Werenski $1,500
Jack Roslovic $1,500
Sean Monahan $1,500
Cam Atkinson $1,000
James van Riemsdyk $1,000
Dean Evason $1,000

The generous donations from both fans and players have already helped Quinn get to 89% of her goal, and I suspect that it won't be long before that goal is reached.

I can only hope that the help the family is receiving from the hockey community will help Quinn make a full and speedy recovery from this terrible situation.
