There's an expecation that the Montreal Canadiens will make a move to acquire a forward, specifically a center, after losing both Alex Galchenyuk and David Desharnais to long-term knee injuries. That doesn't mean they will make a move, but considering the Habs were reportedly looking to add a forward even prior to the injuries it certainly would make sense, and many are already speculating on what exactly the Habs will do.

In a recent article for The Score, Craig Hagerman highlighted three possible trades he believes the Canadiens could make as they look to fill the gap left by their injuries as well as add to their depth for a playoff run. The names on his list are Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Toronto Maple Leafs forward Peter Holland, and Boston Bruins forward Ryan Spooner.

The move that would appear the most likely on the surface is the acquisition of Peter Holland, who likely carries the lowest value of all three players on the list, meaning the Habs would have to give up less to acquire him. On the opposite end of the spectrum is likely the Ryan Nugent-Hopkins deal, while the Oilers have shown a willingness to make big trades, their need is on the blue line, and we don't see the Habs giving up any of their defenseman at this stage.

Spoooner's name is interesting on many levels, not only could he be a big long-term boost to the Habs offense, especially if he blossoms to his full potential in Montreal, but it would also mean a trade with bitter rivals the Boston Bruins. Boston also appears to be interested in adding to their blue line so like the Nugent-Hopkins option it would require so creativity to make a reality.
