Veteran NHL defenseman Chad Ruhwedel has announced his retirement from professional hockey after a 12 year career.

The native of San Diego, California won a Stanley Cup championship with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016-17 and spent the majority of his career with the team. He was a staple of the Penguins' back end from 2016 until just last year when he was traded to the New York Rangers. He played out the stretch of his career with the AHL's Hartford WolfPack last season, putting up 18 points in 50 games.
