The Winnipeg Jets may be about to lose their leading scorer for a few games.

The NHL's Department of Player Safety has announced they will hold a hearing today after Jets forward Drew Stafford swung his stick into the face of Colorado Avalanche defenseman Nick Holden.

Despite the fact that the play does not appear to be intentional in nature, we believe the NHL is doing the right thing here by holding Stafford accountable for recklessly swinging his stick on the ice. It's not hard to imagine a scenario where a swing of that kind could have resulted in far more serious injury to anyone standing in the vicinity, and these types of things should be discouraged. After all the play does result in what is effectively a slash to the face.

That being said the NHL should not throw the book at him over what appears to be an accident, and we don't expect that they will.
