NHLPA releases an official statement regarding the future of the CBA,
Keystone Press

We were initially expecting this one to come in on Sunday, but a clause in the collective bargaining agreement allowed it to be pushed back for one more day. It is unclear whether or not that extra day had any impact on the final announcement that was made today, but what I can say with confidence is that fans of the National Hockey League are going to be very happy with today's decision.

According to an official announcement from the National Hockey League Players Association it now appears as though we will have to wait at least 3 more years before we here talks of another potential NHL lockout, and I for one am perfectly fine with that. The NHLPA released an official statement on Monday morning that indicated that they would not opt out of the current CBA, instead moving forward with the current agreement for 3 more years.

Here is the statement released by the NHLPA on Monday unedited and in full:

"While players have concerns with the current CBA, we agree with the league that working together to address those concerns is the preferred course of action instead of terminating the agreement following this season.

"We have been having discussions with the league about an extension of the CBA and expect that those talks will continue."

-Donald Fehr, NHLPA Executive Director.

This is of course great news, and I can't really think of anything more to add. Hopefully that extension gets worked out before the next 3 years and we can get rid of lockout talk entirely.
