For a long time now we have been hearing about the possibility of the Hughes brothers, Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes, New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes, and New Jersey Devils defenseman Luke Hughes, concocting some kind of plan to play together at the National Hockey League level one day. That talk however always seemed far fetched with all 3 players signed to long term contracts, that is at least until now.

On Saturday night, National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman dropped a bombshell update when he revealed that the possibility of the 3 Hughes brothers playing together was closer to becoming a reality than ever. Friedman confirmed that the Canucks and the Devils have had talks when it comes to the possibility of a trade involving the star defenseman.

"Once Vancouver announced that they were open for business, I do believe there was a conversation, at least one, between the Devils and the Canucks about Quinn Hughes," revealed Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada.

That would of course be one of the biggest storylines of the season in the NHL, but don't get your hopes up just yet. Friedman stressed that there is no imminent trade at this time.

"I do not believe there is anything imminent, I don't even know that they are anywhere far along, but I do believe that conversation was had about where things stand and where they might be going," said Friedman.

It sounds like the Devils' cap situation may be complicating matters here but when it comes to a trade of this magnitude where there is a will there is a way.
