I do not envy the men and women who will have to sit down and decide which players they will be adding to Team Canada's roster for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympic Games. The reality of the situation is that, regardless of who makes the team in the end, there will be players that fans and pundits alike will feel were snubbed by not being included.

On Monday morning, National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman shared his insight into who he believes is currently competing for those final roster spots, with some of the NHL's very best included on a long list of players for which there may only be 2 or 3 spots.

"So the way I look at it, Wyatt Johnston, Bo Horvat, Mark Scheifele, Nick Suzuki, Macklin Celebrini, Connor Bedard, Tom Wilson for two spots," revealed Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast. "That's kind of the way I see it."

Of course if there are only two spots it means that 5 of the names on that list will not be making it onto the roster, which is crazy to think of given the level of star power among those 7 names.

You may have noticed that there are only forwards on that list, and there is a good reason for that. According to Friedman it is going to be extremely hard to earn a spot on the defensive side of things given how Team Canada felt about their defense at the Four Nations Face-Off.

"You know who else I think is on the long list? Jakob Chychrun," said Friedman. "I think he's on the long list. The tough thing for me is I think Canada really liked their D. They had injuries and their guys played well."

Bruins forward Morgan Geekie could also be on that list with 20 goals in just 27 games to start the 2025-26 NHL regular season but Friedman believes that his resume simply isn't big enough to compete with some of the other names he mentioned.

As I said I do not envy the men and women who will have to sit down and make what looks like an impossible series of choices from the outside looking in.

Let me know who you think should make the roster in the comments.
