Nick Bonino's NHL career looks to officially be over

The New York Rangers have placed veteran forward Nick Bonino on waivers today for the purposes of terminating his contract.

You may recall that the Rangers put Bonino on waivers prior to the NHL's All Star Weekend break and today Rangers insider Peter Baugh reports that the team gave Bonino the break to consider his position. Report to the AHL's Bridgeport Islanders or terminate his agreement with the team. 

From Baugh:

Once Bonino clears waivers he'll become an unrestricted free agent and he'll be free to sign with any team in the NHL. Given that he has only managed one goal and five points in 45 games with the Rangers this season and the fact that he's 35 years old, I have to imagine that this is the end of the road.

According to a report from NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the New York Rangers are expected to put veteran forward Nick Bonino on waivers today.

From Seravalli:

The 35 year old forward has just one goal and five points in 45 games with the Rangers this season, after signing a one year $800,000 deal with the team this past offseason. While his numbers this season might seem unimpressive, I can't see Bonino passing through waivers unclaimed.

Bonino is a two time Stanley Cup champion from his time with the Pittsburgh Penguins and has bounced around the NHL the past few years. In total he has 159 goals and 358 points in 868 career NHL games split between the Anaheim Ducks, Vancouver Canucks, Pittsburgh Penguins, Nashville Predators, Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks and New York Rangers.
