Bruins lose one of their top defensemen to a bad looking injury.
The Boston Bruins may have just lost one of their top defensemen for some time.
On Saturday night, during a clash between the Bruins and their bitter rivals, the Montreal Canadiens, things would turn into a nightmare for the Bruins late in the second period. With just a little over 4 minutes left to go in the game's second period, Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov was on the receiving end of a big hit from Canadiens forward Zachary Bolduc along the boards.
The hit itself wasn't the most devastating blow you're ever going to see, but the awkward way the two men went into the boards would cause serious problems. After absorbing the hit, Zadorov would attempt to keep his momentum going up the ice, but the end result was him slowly falling backwards and off balance. As Zadorov finally toppled over, no longer able to maintain his balance, his right skate appeared to get caught in the ice as the entire weight of his body came crashing down on his right leg.
Zadorov's leg would buckle under him in sickening fashion, causing the tough Bruins defenseman to remain down on the ice for several moments.
Zadorov tried to get up under his own power but was unable to do so, eventually getting carried off the ice by his teammates and disappearing into the Bruins locker room.
