In case you missed it last night, Chicago Blackhawks forward Jujhar Khaira was rushed to hospital after taking a devastating hit from New York Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba. Khaira was knocked unconscious on the ice and was taken to hospital via ambulance immediately.

Here's the hit in question:

The Blackhawks announced earlier today that Khaira has been released from hospital and will make a full recovery.

"Despite the significant injury, his prognosis is excellent, and we expect a full recovery. At this point, it is too early to put a timeline on return to play.”

- Chicago Blackhawks

As for Trouba, he will reportedly face no supplemental discipline from NHL Player Safety as a result of this hit.

Check it out:

Honestly, I think I'm okay with this. As much as I feel for Khaira, this has all the makings of a good hit on Trouba's behalf. He saw a player looking for a puck in his feet and he made the split second decision to step up and play the man rather than the body. His shoulder appears to make contact with Khaira's chest and he simply follows through with a MASSIVE body check that absolutely rocked Khaira. In all honesty this is a hit that we used to see a lot more of in the 70's, 80's and 90's but that we don't see so often these days. Remember the old saying, "Keep your head up!"... well... this is why. If you're trying to break in or out of the zone and you've got your head down while handling the puck, you better expect to get rocked 10 times out of 10.

Again, I hope nothing but the best for Khaira and I full expect Blackhawks fans to bury me for this but I don't feel that this hit is worthy of a suspension or a fine. This is simply a case of a defenseman stepping up to make a hit, it just so happens to be an absolutely devastating hit with unfortunate consequences.
