Yikes… probably not the reception Willy was hoping for.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander took to the ice at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena for his first game since April and… well let’s just say he received a mixed reception from Leafs fans.

Nylander, of course, put an end to a five month contract stalemate with his team this past weekend when he inked a six year contract worth $6.9 million per season. The 22 year old Swedish sniper say out the team’s last game against the Buffalo Sabres but is in the lineup for tonight’s game against the Detroit Red Wings. While fans were mostly quiet during warmup, there was a noticeable reaction from the crowd when Nylander took his first shift of the game.

At first, Nylander seemed to receive a warm ovation from the crowd, but a smattering of boos could DEFINITELY be heard.

william nylander is on nhl ice in an nhl game for the first time since april and there is a nice cheer from the crowd for him. and some boos.

It’s hard to hear, but again you can DEFINITELY hear some boos from the crowd when Nylander picks up the puck, check it out:

Again… that’s probably not the reaction Willy was hoping for. But I guess that’s the way it goes when you hold a team hostage until the 11th hour.
