Yeah, I’m pretty sure the Conn Smythe favorite is not who you think it is… More below:
After an intense and quite chaotic Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers on Monday night, one player took over as the clear Conn Smythe favorite.
One of the Panthers’ most hated players, Sam Bennett, has surpassed Connor McDavid as the new betting favorite to win the Conn Smythe Trophy, awared to the playoff MVP since the start of the postseason.
The Panthers’ controversial forward is +140 on theScore Bet/ESPN Bet, ahead the Oilers’ captain (+240) and Florida’s Brad Marchand (+400) and goalie Sergei Bobrovsky (+600).
Per theScore Bet/ESPN Bet, Bennett entered the series at +2500 and was as high as +15000 (bet $1, win $150) to win the Conn Smythe.
If you ask anyone in Edmonton if Bennett should be awared the Conn Smythe Trophy, I’m pretty sure Oilers’ fans will think you’re joking. But the truth is that Bennett Bennett recorded his fourth goal of the Stanley Cup Final and 14th of the playoffs in Florida’s 6-1 blowout loss, and extendedhis postseason goal lead by four over Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl. Bennett is fifth in playoff points and leads the Panthers with 20.
The Panthers now a 2-1 series lead, despite the Oilers entering as the favorite to win the Stanley Cup this time around. The Oilers will look to even out the series before heading back home for Saturday’s Game 5. And probably change the oddsmakers again as the Final unfolds.
