THIS JUST IN:
The Vancouver Canucks have made an offer to pending free agent Bo Horvat amidst all the trade talks on Friday.
General manager Patrik Allvin revealed, per David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period, there is an contract extension offer on Horvat’s table at the moment. Allvin is focused on staying cap compliant.
“I believe that from our side we put a good offer on the table for Bo. I met with his agent Pat Morris in my office before the game with Chicago (on Tue). Still talking to his agent and we’ll see where it goes.”
On Thursday, the Canucks signed winger Andrei Kuzmenko to a two-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $5.5 million. With their limited cap space for 2023-24, this could mean the Canucks have to move on from Horvat.
Horvat is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, with his current six-year, $33 million deal signed in 2017 is coming to a close. While the amount in the contract offer remains undisclosed, it is hard to believe there is enough cap space for both Kuzmenko and Horvat.
Many teams have been linked to Horvat on trade market, including the Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes, Minnesota Wild, New Jersey Devils, the Carolina Hurricanes and Seattle Kraken.
It remains to be seen what will come next for Horvat - a signature on a Canucks' contract or a move to a contender prior to the March 3rd deadline.
