Yesterday’s report that the New York Rangers had signed 21 year-old goaltender Alexandar Georgiev to an entry-level contract has been confirmed by the team.

While the young Russian likely won’t factor into the plans for the Rangers this season, he’s poised to be a stand out star for the team’s AHL affiliate in Hartford. There he’ll be expected to push for the starting position over Chris Neil and Brandon Halverson.

Georgiev made his pro debut with TPS Turki of the Finnish Liiga last season and posted a remarkable 1.70 GAA and .923 SV% in 27 games. It’ll be interesting to see how his transition to the North American game goes and whether or not he can take advantage of the huge opportunity in front of him.
