A stunning press conference moment following Game 7 is now drawing serious league attention.
The Barrie Colts are headed to the OHL championship series, but the spotlight coming out of their Game 7 win has little to do with hockey.
Following a dominant 5-0 victory over the Brantford Bulldogs on Monday, head coach Dylan Smoskowitz and star defenseman Kashawn Aitcheson, who scored the game-winning goal, took part in a postgame press conference that quickly took an unusual turn.
Instead of standard answers about the win and the upcoming series, both repeatedly delivered the same message to every question: “No one cares. Work harder.”
The repeated responses left media in the room surprised, especially as the exchange continued regardless of the topic being asked.
Reports later suggested frustration from the organization over restrictions on player availability for the media session, though additional players were made available afterward.
Still, the moment gained immediate attention around the league, with OHL commissioner Bryan Crawford confirming that the organization would be reviewing the situation.
On Wednesday, the Colts were officially fined $15,000 for conduct deemed detrimental to the league’s public perception.
While Barrie continues its playoff run on the ice, the aftermath of Game 7 has shifted attention elsewhere, turning what should have been a celebration into one of the more unusual postgame stories of the season.
