One player for another amongst rival Canadian teams
The Edmonton Oilers acquired forward Josh Bloom from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forward Jayden Grubbe on Friday. A week after the deadline. Teams can still make trades, but the players are ineligible for the playoffs.
Bloom is a 22-year-old left-winger from Oakville, Ont., who was selected 95th overall by the Canucks back in 2021. He has taken part in 19 games with both the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks and ECHL's Kalamazoo Wings this season, scoring one goal with Abbotsford plus 15 goals and 13 assists with Kalamazoo.
He won the 2024 Memorial Cup with the host Saginaw Spirit and also played for the North Bay Battalion during his Ontario Hockey League career.
Bloom will now report to the Oilers ECHL affiliate Fort Wayne Komets.
As the Canucks, they are getting in return Jayden Grubbe, who is 23 years old. His rights were acquired by Edmonton from the New York Rangers back in 2023. He was selected in the third round, 65th overall by NYC two years before.
In 28 games this season with the Fort Wayne Komets in the ECHL, Grubbe has collected seven goals and 19 points.
