The Edmonton Oilers are trying to rebound after an awful start to the season. Expectations are high, but with only 2 wins in 6 games, things haven't gotten off to the right foot.

With Leon Draisaitl and Drake Caggiula both out, the last thing they need is an injury to Connor McDavid. That would all but spell the end.

The superstar took a hard stick to the face and had to leave to the dressing room.

Upon further inspection, it was actually his own teammate who smacked McDavid in the face.

Fortunately, he found his way back to the bench after getting treatment from the head trainer.

A stick to the face can do a lot more than cause some bleeding. Edmonton came out lucky here.

The Oilers didn't look good at all without McDavid on the ice for a good chunk of time - it's clear that they have to protect him at all costs from a serious injury.
