Things might get ugly tonight in a rematch of the Stanley Cup Final.
The Edmonton Oilers may be out for revenge.
On Friday the Oilers made an eyebrow raising move when they called up 20 year old forward Connor Clattenburg from the American Hockey League's Bakersfield Condors. The move was curious because Clattenburg has just 2 points in the AHL this season with the Bakersfield Condors, a goal and an assist which isn't exactly screaming for a call up to the National Hockey League after 15 games this season.
What Clattenburg does have however is a serious edge to his game, an edge that has seen him accumulate nearly 60 penalty minutes over that same stretch of time, and the Oilers next opponent may explain why this call up has happened.
The Oilers and Florida Panthers clearly don't have any love for one another after back to back head to head collisions in the Stanley Cup Finals, and there was a strong belief that the Oilers were bringing in muscle to send a message on Saturday night. If there was any doubt about it those doubts were erased on Saturday morning when the Oilers hit the ice for their morning skate, with Clattenburg clearly featured in the lineup.
Here's a look at the full lineup:
Savoie - McDavid - Roslovic
Podkolzin - Draisaitl - Mangiapane
Frederic - Henrique - Hyman
Clattenburg - Tomasek - Janmark
Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - Regula
Kulak - Emberson
Skinner
Pickard
The Oilers seem intent on getting a measure of revenge tonight and I expect that we will see fireworks from Clattenburg and perhaps more when the puck drops between these two rival teams on Saturday night.
