A trade seems inevitable for the Oilers and one of their veteran defensemen.
The Edmonton Oilers appear poised to make a significant roster move, one that it would seem will inevitably come in the form of a trade.
The Oilers are currently dealing with a number of significant injuries to players on their roster and the return of those players will create a bit of a cap crunch and will require some movement on the part of the team. Recently National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman provided some insight on who might be on their way out, with Friedman pointing the finger squarely at one defenseman on the Oilers roster.
"One of the names that's definitely going around there is Troy Stecher," revealed Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada.
Friedman did admit that there are other options available to the Oilers so there's no guarantee that Stecher will be the player moved, but he did emphasize again that Stecher is a name that he has been hearing a lot.
"It doesn't necessarily have to be Stecher, I think the Oilers are considering a bunch of things, but he is definitely one of the people who is being considered," said Friedman.
Friedman even suggested that there is interest in Stecher around the league and added that one of the hold ups may be the Oilers trying to do right by the player.
"I heard there is some interest and I think the Oilers are trying to find him a soft landing," concluded the insider.
Stecher has only appeared in 6 games for the Oilers this season and was once again a healthy scratch on Saturday night when the Oilers faced off against the Chicago Blackhawks, so a change of scenery might not be the worst thing for all parties involved here.
