Kris Knoblauch confirms the bad news on Saturday.
The Edmonton Oilers have taken a pretty comfortable spot at the top of the National Hockey League's Pacific Division, but with several games still remaining on the regular season calendar they still have several battles ahead in order to maintain that spot.
Things will unfortunately begin with an uphill battle for the Oilers on Saturday night when they face off against the Vegas Golden Knights for their final matchup of the regular season.
On Saturday, Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch confirmed that forward Zach Hyman would remain out of the lineup for tonight's game due to injury concerns. Knoblauch did indicate to reporters that Hyman would be playing if this were a playoff situation, a good sign that suggests his injury is a relatively minor one, but he will not be available against the Golden Knights. It seems fair to suggest that the Oilers surge to the top spot in the Pacific Division may have bought Hyman a little extra time to nurse any lingering injuries before the playoffs get underway, which is a nice silver lining here for the Oilers.
That being said, Hyman is one of the Oilers most impactful offensive players and having him absent from the lineup will be a big blow to the Oilers. That will be compounded by the fact that the Oilers are already without star forward Leon Draisaitl, leaving them with a significantly depleted offense.
Despite only appearing in 57 games for the Oilers this season, Hyman has already contributed 31 goals and 20 assists for 51 total points thus far.
