Oilers F Evander Kane slapped with fine after dirty knee-on-knee hit!
Should he have been punished more?
He's certainly one of the most polarizing players in the National Hockey League today, and during last night's game, he added more fuel to the fire for his detractors.
Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane caught Los Angeles Kings defenseman Sean Durzi with a ridiculous knee-on-knee hit, extending it towards Durzi and making it the principle point of contact. Though the Kings blue liner was shaken up on the play, he was able to continue playing throughout the night.
And now, Kane has found out his punishment. According to the National Hockey League Department of Player Safety, he's been fined $5,000 for his actions, which is the maximum allowed under the CBA.
For those who may not have seen it, here is the play in question:
Despite the obviously serious infraction, Kane was assessed only a two-minute minor for kneeing. These are the kinds of hits that can cause serious damage, even ending careers. Did Kane get off easy?
