Oilers’ fans react to Evander Kane’s proposed trade!

Could this really take place in Edmonton?

Right before the holiday break, Edmonton-based journalist Rob Couch suggested that the Oilers could look into trading forward Evander Kane and asked the following question: “What has become abundantly clear is that the Oilers’ top-six can function very well without Kane, begging the question, do the Oilers even need him on the roster or are they better off moving him and opening up space?”

As soon as Couch posted his proposed trade on X, formerly known as Twitter, fans reacted by calling out the journalist, outraged with the idea that the Oilers could part with one of the most productive wingers the team has had in the past two-and-a-half seasons.

There is a logical point from Couch’s analysis in his argument that Kane not playing in the top six equates to a lot of money being spent in the lower part of the forward corps. He wonders if that money could perhaps be better used elsewhere. The Oilers could certainly used Kane’s $5.125 million cap hit to solve a number of issues, and that’s how Couch brought up the idea of moving him closer to the trade deadline.

Oilers’ fans however made it clear that Kane should not be moved with comments reading: “Horrible post.” and another said, “Awful post. The fix is temporary and Kane belongs in the top 6. Also, you need a player like this when playoff comes.” Another said, “There isn’t a player you want in game 83 more than this guy.”

It is true that Kane has been a hot commodity during the postseason. He has put up 16 goals in 27 playoff games for Edmonton since his arrival.

If you were to ask GM Ken Holland, the Oilers aren’t trading Kane, who has a no-move clause.

But the proposed scenario sure got fans freaking out and they made sure the Oilers heard them!
