Oilers fans travel all the way to Texas just to troll the Flames.
That is dedication.
They say that love can be a double edged sword and if you ever needed proof of that all you would have to do is find the nearest diehard sports fan to prove that theory to be true. Sports fans love their favorite teams with a burning passion but with that love also often comes an equally fierce hatred of their most bitter rivals.
One such rivalry in the National Hockey League is the inter provincial rivalry between the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers, better known as the Battle of Alberta. Over the course of many years the Flames and the Oilers have battled one another tooth and nail and as a result it has developed into one of the best rivalries in hockey, one that clearly has an impact on both of the teams involved, their players, and of course their respective fan bases.
Perhaps the only thing a fan of the Oilers loves more than to see their own team succeed is to see their bitter rivals the Calgary Flames fail, and the same can be said of the Flames fan base when it comes to the Oilers. On Saturday night, a pair of diehard Edmonton Oilers fans demonstrated just that when they spent their hard earned money to attend Game 3 of the opening round Stanley Cup playoff series between the Dallas Stars and the Calgary Flames. The two fans even wore their Oilers jerseys as if to show they weren't there to root for either team, something they would quickly confirm when they held up a hilarious little sign.
The sign had the letters "ABC" written vertically along the side which stood for:
Anyone
But
Calgary
That's right. They didn't attend the game so that they could watch and cheer for their favorite team, they attended the game purely for the joy of watching and cheering against their most bitter rivals. Funnily enough, and no doubt much to their delight, the Stars would pick up their first win of the series on Saturday night, bringing the series back to within a game with the Flames holding a 2 - 1 lead.
