This just in, Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch told reporters that injured defenseman Mattias Ekholm may be available to play, should the Oilers clinch a spot in the Western Conference Finals.

From Oilers insider Ryan Rishaug:

Ekholm was injured about a month ago on April 11th in a game against the San Jose Sharks. He hasn't played since then and the early reports were that he would likely be done for the season. Just yesterday Oilers insider Tom Gazzola reported that Ekholm was "weeks away" from being able to play.

The Oilers, of course, hold a 3-1 series lead over the Vegas Golden Knights thanks to an impressive 3-0 victory yesterday evening. Should the Oilers close out the series in Game 5 tomorrow evening they may have a lengthy wait for the Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets to close out their series, giving not just Ekholm but the entire Oilers roster a chance to rest up.

Stay tuned for an official report on Ekholm's status in the coming days.
