Edmonton Oilers fans received a nice little surprise today when injured forward Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman joined the team for practice.

That's the good news... the bad news is that neither forward is quite ready yet to return to action.

Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch confirmed to the media tonight that Hyman won't play tonight against the league leading Colorado Avalanche, but he could return to the lineup for Thursday's game against the Vancouver Canucks to close out the regular season.

As for Draisaitl, well it's a little more complicated.

Knoblauch has been saying all along that the plan is for Draisaitl to get back into the lineup for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but Draisaitl himself told reporters today that he may be on the shelf for the first "few games" of the 1st round.

From Oilers insider Ryan Rishaug:

Either way, it's encouraging to see two of the Oilers' top players nearing a healthy return with playoffs just a week away.
