Oilers have $38 million in salary scratched in the press box for tonight's game

The Edmonton Oilers will have nearly $40 million in contracts sitting in the press box tonight with forwards Trent Frederic and Andrew Mangiapane both scratched when the team takes on the Nashville Predators.

Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch confirmed earlier today that Frederic (8 years at $3.85 M) and Mangiapane (2 years at $3.6 M) will not suit up this evening for his team, preferring to go with rookie Quinn Hutson and Kasperi Kapanen, whom was released from IR earlier today.

How... how... HOW does GM Stan Bowman still have a job in the NHL?!

If the Mangiapane contract wasn't bad enough, the Frederic contract should be enough proof to earn Bowman a lifetime ban from hockey management.

I know i've said it twice already but it bears repeating: This is insane.

It's even crazier when you consider that superstar captain Connor McDavid took a contract discount so that the Oilers could use that money to acquire better players to surround himself and Leon Draisaitl. Instead, they get $38 million sitting in popcorn row... yeesh.
