Oilers trade Cody Ceci within the Pacific Division
Cody Ceci is moving on from Edmonton.
The Oilers have pulled off a late night trade, sending defenseman Cody Ceci to the Pacific Division rival San Jose Sharks along with a 3rd round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. In return, they picked up defenseman Ty Emberson.
“Cody is a solid, competitive veteran defenseman who brings a well-rounded skill set to our group," said Grier. "He’s a strong penalty killer who can also contribute offensively and he brings extensive playoff experience. We’re excited to have him join our organization.”
Originally selected with the 15th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft by the Ottawa Senators, he would play five seasons in the Canadian capital city before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs prior to the 2019-20 campaign. After a single season with the Leafs, he would sign for one year with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Ceci would eventually sign a four year, $13 million deal with the Oilers in July of 2021 and has one season remaining on that contract.
He's scored 48 goals and 163 assists in 786 career NHL games.
