Great news for the Oilers just hours before Game 1.
The Edmonton Oilers appear to be getting healthy at exactly the right time. The Oilers will be one of the last team's in the Stanley Cup Playoffs to kick off their opening round series but that may have worked out in their benefit.
On Sunday, Oilers star forward Leon Draisaitl hit the ice and for the second straight practice was slotted in his usual spot between Vasili Podkolzin and Kasperi Kapanen on the Oilers second line. The return of Draisaitl was of course always projected for the start of the Stanley Cup playoffs, but his return will be huge for the Oilers nonetheless with Draisaitl showing once again this season that he is among the National Hockey League's most potent offensive threats.
That was only the start of the good news for the Oilers however with Jason Dickinson returning to practice after being injured earlier this month in a game against the San Jose Sharks. Dickinson would miss the final 3 games of the regular season, but appeared to be moving well during practice on Sunday. That being said this is still no guarantee that Dickson will be available for Game 1 with the Oilers not making any kind of official announcement as it pertains to his status for the start of the playoffs.
Stay tuned for more updates as we draw closer to Game 1.
