Oilers hint at their lineup for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final.
The Oilers hit the ice on Sunday and gave us what might be a preview of their lineup for Game 1.
The Stanley Cup Final is now only a few days away and the preparations for the most pivotal series of the National Hockey League season are well under way.
On Sunday, the Edmonton Oilers hit the ice for practice ahead of Game 1 and it was during that practice that we got what could be a preview of that team's lineup for the first game in the series.
First let's look at the forwards:
RNH - McDavid - Perry
Kane - Draisaitl - Kapanen
Skinner - Henrique - Frederic
Podkolzin - Janmark - Arvidsson
The Oilers deploying aging veteran forward Corey Perry on their top line seems to come as a result of the injury to Zach Hyman who will not return during this series, but Perry has performed admirably in that role despite being much older than the competition after turning 40 last month.
The Oilers had 3 extra forwards on the ice today as well with Derek Ryan, Max Jones and the returning Connor Brown all available to them as well should head coach Kris Knoblauch opt to make any changes.
Now let's look at the defense:
Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - Kulak
Walman - Klingberg
The loss of Hyman was of course a huge blow but the Oilers' ability to make a deep run in these playoffs has allowed injured defenseman Mattias Ekholm to recover and work his way back into the lineup, a big boost for the Oilers at a time when they will need it most. The Oilers also had Ty Emberson and Troy Stecher on the ice as well and Stecher in particular has already shown that he can deliver in these playoffs should his number be called. The 31 year old NHL veteran performed admirably for the Oilers while Ekholm was out due to injury so I wouldn't be surprised if we see him at some point in the Stanley Cup Final.
Do you agree with Kris Knoblauch's lineup? Would you like to see some changes made? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
