Dallas Stars have hired a new head coach and it's a big blow to the Oilers.
The Dallas Stars have a new head coach.
According to a report from National Hockey League insider Darren Dreger, the Stars have offered the head coaching position to current Edmonton Oilers assistant coach Glen Gulutzan. According to Dreger, the two sides are now negotiating on a new deal with Gulutzan presumably accepting the job behind the Stars bench.
Gulutzan brings with him a wealth of experience behind the bench at the National Hockey League level, having previously served as both a head coach and assistant coach for many years.
Gulutzan's first stint as an NHL head coach was actually with the Dallas Stars between 2011 and 2013, where he held the position for parts of two seasons. Gulutzan also served as head coach of the Calgary Flames for 2 seasons between 2016 and 2018.
As an assistant coach in the NHL Gulutzan has worked with both the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers, with a total of 10 seasons combined behind the bench between those two organizations.
