The NHL is forced to help out Ken Holland with the mess he's made.
The Edmonton Oilers have recalled forward Vincent Desharnais from the AHL's Bakersfield Condors using the NHL's Roster Emergency Exception (REE) rule to avoid any salary cap implications.
Interestingly enough, the Oilers also have forward Devin Shore up with the team on REE, meaning that Desharnais' and Shore's combined $1.65 million in salary will not count against the Oilers' salary cap. The team is able to do this because they have played the past two games while shorthanded due to injuries and salary cap implications. So, in effect this is the NHL throwing them a bit of cap relief due to the mess of contracts that Ken Holland has produced.
