Oilers bring in a new name just hours before playing against his son.
The Edmonton Oilers have made an important hire for the future of their organization and it just so happens to be one with a rather amusing twist.
On Saturday, the Oilers officially announced that they were adding Andy Slaggert to their hockey operations department with Slaggert set to take over as the organization's director of North American recruiting. Slaggert brings a wealth of hockey experience to the table having spent decades behind the bench of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish hockey team and is no doubt being brought in in large part due to his extensive experience in the American collegiate system.
While the move in and of itself isn't particularly surprising, the timing of the move certainly is given who the Oilers will be playing on Saturday night. The Oilers are set to take on the Chicago Blackhawks and unfortunately for Slaggert that means that he will be rooting against his very own son's team, with Slaggert's son Landon currently a member of the Blackhawks.
Landon has appeared in just 4 games for the Blackhawks this season but in spite of that he will be in the lineup this evening, slotted on the Blackhawks' fourth line, when they take on the Edmonton Oilers and their new director of North American recruiting, his dad, on Saturday night.
Landon currently has no points on the season and boasts 2 penalty minutes to his name as well as a plus minus rating of -2 through those first four games.
