Oilers shut down an attempted trade deal from the Canucks.
It would seem that the Vancouver Canucks may be dealing with a little buyer's remorse.
The Canucks have been one of the worst teams in the National Hockey League this season and as a result there is an expectation that they will be looking to sell ahead of the NHL's trade deadline, with the names of several veteran players topping that list. One such player is veteran forward Evander Kane who the Canucks reportedly just offered to a Western Conference rival.
This past week, Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal spoke on the possibility of an Evander Kane trade and began by suggesting that it will be a hard move for the Canucks to make.
"That one could be tough," said Dhaliwal on Halford and Brough. "One team told me 'Have fun moving him,' you've got the contract, you got the production isn't great, you got the age, injuries, he didn't play in the regular season last year."
What came next however was truly a bombshell from the insider, with Dhaliwal revealing that the Canucks had already offered Kane to the Edmonton Oilers in an effort to unload the player.
"A couple of people have told me the Canucks tried to peddle him back to Edmonton," revealed Dhaliwal.
Unfortunately for the Canucks however, it doesn't sound like the Oilers have any interest in bringing him back to the team.
"My Edmonton source told me that ship has sailed for the Oilers," revealed Dhaliwal.
Kane has looked like a shell of his former self this season with just 6 goals and 14 assists for 20 points in 40 regular season games, and that is after missing all of the 2024-25 regular season due to injury. It could very well be the case that Kane is suffering from being on a struggling team, but with his age and injury history it may be difficult for teams to justify taking a gamble on him.
The Oilers it would seem are among the teams that feel such a gamble would not be justified.
