One of the truly frustrating things about being a fan of the Edmonton Oilers is having to endure their insufferable media. The likes of Jim Matheson and Mark Spector manage to cook up some truly ridiculous hot takes, but sometimes their takes get so spicy that border on parody.

Take Matheson's social media post on Jesse Puljujarvi yesterday. First off, it's no secret that Matheson is no fan of Puljujarvi. Matheson has continually gone out of his way to single out Puljujarvi when reporting on the Oilers' struggles. He has Puljujarvi as a trade chip in nearly every rumor article that he publishes and he's made it clear that he doesn't think Puljujarvi fits in with the team's "culture". Now, cut to Matheson's post yesterday in which he once again carries water for GM Ken Holland and essentially dismisses any concerns that fans may have over trading away Puljujarvi.

Check it out:

Uh... what do Datsyk, Zetterberg and Hossa have to do with anything? Holland made the Hossa trade nearly 15 years ago...

Talk about an appeal to authority...

The fact is that for every good thing Holland has done in his career, he has pulled a boneheaded move. Oh... and his best moves came literally more than 20 years ago. He was a great GM in his day no doubt, perhaps the best GM in the league, but the league has simply passed him by. I mean, this is the same guy who signed Frans Nielsen to a $30 million contract, signed signed Justin Abdelkader to a $38 million contract and Stephen Weiss to a $24 million contract. His track record since the Red Wings' glory days is spotty at best, yet for some reason Oilers media laps up every word that he says. It was no different when the Oilers employed head coach Dave Tippett, nothing but excuses and appeals to authority. Enough already...

Personally, I think the Oilers need a serious managerial shake up, one that's been long overdue for a decade now. Get these dinosaurs out of the front office to usher in a new era of Oilers hockey, but I'm not holding my breath.
